Seeing as I’ve been flailing (and a bit of complaining) about the Emmys last night and today (and lost a follower or two along the way) I figured I should do a little post about my favourite all-time shows and the shows I love right now. You’ll see shows from both lists on my blog often, so also consider this a warning. I watch too much TV.

Susie’s Top 5 All-Time TV shows

1. The West Wing - I watch a lot of TV, I probably always will but no show will ever mean as much as to me as TWW does. Sorkin, that cast, so many amazing episodes, all the feelings. I can’t put into words how amazing it is.
2. Six Feet Under - I still remember the day I watched the pilot (I was 11) and the day I watched the finale air in the UK. This show gives me so many feelings and the Fischers are probably my favourite TV family there has ever been. I love all their flaws, Nate especially. Alan Ball won’t be better than this.
3. Friday Night Lights - Yes I just caught up in the last few months but it’s that good! I did watch the first half of 1st season back when it aired on UK tv then missed a few and only just caught up but I love everything this show chooses to be. AND NOW IT’S AN EMMY WINNER! Please watch it.
4. Arrested Development - No show has ever made me laugh so much and with such consistency. Even to this day when I’ve watched the episodes hundreds of times. The Bluths are amazing and I’m still bitter that FOX took them away. Been waiting on the movie for years now, please let it happen.
5. Entourage - Another show I’ve been into since day 1. I always felt when watching it that I was part of the Entourage because that’s how the show makes you feel. And Ari Gold is quite frankly one of the greatest TV characters ever.

Honorable mentions to The Wire (another recent show for me but WOW), Firefly (why this show didn’t last more than 14 episodes will always amaze me), Black Books and Spin City.

You will notice that all these shows mentioned have ended either years ago or in the recent past. I miss every single one of them but I have a huge TV DVD collection containing all their seasons and I dip into them often.

Susie’s Top 5 currently airing TV shows

1. Castle - I’m still not really a fan of procedurals but this show, this show just gets better and better. I will admit that I first watched back in day for Nathan Fillion but I’m so invested in all the rest now too. IT’S BACK TONIGHT! (10/9C on ABC)
2. Parenthood - Jason Katims’ (FNL exec producer) new show, along with some producers of The West Wing. I thought at first that it’d be a Brothers & Sisters rip-off but it is actually 100x better. This is the current show that gives me the most feelings and it’s so underrated. Tuesdays 10/9C on NBC btw. WATCH IT!
3. Treme - David Simon’s current show about New Orleans post-Katrina with easily the best music on television. I never knew I was into jazz or rap-hip-hop until this show. And the characters are so beautifully written and portrayed. Airs on HBO but is on hiatus atm. Catch up now!
4. Parks and Recreation - Newly caught up on this and it’s up there with Arrested Development for me, it makes me laugh till I hurt. Amy Poehler is amazing and the rest of the cast are brilliant as well. So, so good. Thursdays 8.30/7.30C on NBC!
5. Doctor Who - Steven Moffat becoming head writer was the best thing to happen to Nu Who. It continually amazes me week after week. I thought I would never love Eleven but I love him more than Ten now (even though Ten is my Doctor). Saturdays at varying times on BBC One!

I also watch Hung, The Big C, Mad Men and some other stuff I’m probably forgetting. Mad Men is right near that list, it’s proper good. I tried Community but only connected with Troy & Abed and not a thing else in it.
